Stand Your Ground: Eat Healthy

Let’s face it, many times our family and friends have a lot of influence over us.  We tend to make decisions based on what they think and feel. Growing up, my family was no exception. They tried to discourage me from adopting a vegetarian diet. Eating soul food high in sodium, sugar, and bad fats was all I had ever known.  Why would I want to stop eating these foods, they would ask. But, despite my family’s objection to my seemingly freakish way of eating, I chose the healthy route. When it comes to your health, Stand Your Ground.

Even when family and friends object, you have to persevere and do what you know is right: eat healthy.

Choosing a healthy way of eating isn’t easy. It takes a lot of persistence and discipline. Unhealthy food temptations are widespread and prevalent. We’re tempted in our homes, at the office, while we’re out kickin around town. The constant overt and subliminal suggestions to eat unhealthy can be hard to ignore. And, because many of us are pressed for time, we reach for the unhealthy foods because they’re quick and easily accessible.

But, the next time you’re tempted to eat unhealthy, and family & friends offer no encouragement, remember that eating healthy is an individual choice. You have the power to decide what’s best for you. Be brave little grasshopper and Stand Your Ground; eating healthy is much more rewarding!
