Dine Healthy On Valentine’s Day!

Love is in the air! Romantic dinners for two, at a cozy restaurant are synonymous with Valentine’s Day. But, if you’ve stuck with your New Year’s resolution to be healthy, you don’t want to resort back to old habits by eating unhealthy on this day.

So, how do you maintain a healthy diet while eating out? Well, with a little planning, creativity, and will power, you can still have that romantic meal, and still eat healthy.

Here are a few suggestions for eating healthy, while dining out on Valentine’s Day:

  • Drink water before your meal – this will give you a full feeling and allow you to eat less later
  • Don’t be afraid to ask – if menu options are not to your liking, don’t be afraid to ask for something different; you’re a paying customer. Say that a menu selection is prepared with fried fish, but you’d prefer baked or grilled; ask for it!
  • Eat in moderation – just because you’re served an enormous meal, doesn’t mean you have to eat the entire meal in one sitting. You can eat a smaller portion and take home what’s left.
  • Limit bread – those hot, toasty rolls they bring you before your meal can be deadly to a diet. Try eating bread and rolls in smaller portions and use butter sparingly; olive oil is better.
  • Don’t forget the sides – loading up on side dishes can replace an enormous meal. Try designing your own meal by selecting a salad, then choose several side dishes like steamed vegetables, rice, baked or mashed potatoes.
  • Share dessert – if only decadent desserts are on the menu, try sharing one with your sweetie. You can still enjoy that cheesecake, or molten chocolate cake — only half as much.

While you’re dining out and enjoying your romantic dinner, remember bathing suit season is just around the corner!
